Sprint Mesh Shoulder Bag

Sharing is caring!

Hello!

Recently, I was asked by my friend to make a custom order shoulder bag! He saw my Nami Crochet Tote Bag on my Instagram, and he was so amazed by how the finish project looked.

It was kind of crazy approach actually. I see him at church on Sunday, and my young adult community plays volleyball when it’s nice weather. I usually don’t go but I needed to kill some time that Sunday afternoon so I stopped by at the field where my friends play volleyball. That’s when he came up to me and asked for a bag. Instead of playing volleyball, he sat down and went over with me how his bag should be. I was asking him how long the strap needs to be, how tall the bag should be, does he want flaps or open…all kinds of detailed questions! Because he was being so specific, it was easier for me to construct the design.

I repurposed my Nami Crochet Tote Bag with some changes (like the base became oval instead of rectangle) and added a flap! I love how the flap turned out!!

One thing he wanted for sure was a shoulder pad! I had no idea how I should make it when he asked me, but in the end, I was able to make decent one!

I found some felt and fabric with cotton in it, so I cut them into a size big enough to cover a shoulder. Then I crocheted a small piece of rectangle to covered the fabrics and attached it to the strap.

How does it look? This piece was last thing I needed to do, and I didn’t have enough time to make it neater…and that’s one of the reasons I came up with the name for this project. Sprint…grab this bag and run out, but also I had short time to make it 😂

Modeling was done by my lovely sister-figure Iris 😘 Thank you, Iris!

I hope you enjoy this project! Here’s free pattern for Sprint Mesh Shoulder Bag! (You can purchase nicely formatted PDF at my Etsy shop HERE !)

Materials:
Notes:
  • Size – about 10.75” x 4.75” (27cm x 12cm) for base, 49” (125cm) long when stretched for strap, 11.75” (30cm) for height when stretched.
  • Number in [ ] indicates number of stitches in each round.
  • You will be working around foundation CH to make oval for base.
  • You will be working with 2 strands together.
  • For each round for base, you will be working your 1st stitch in the 1st stitch (same stitch as you SL ST in) from previous round.
  • Because diamond mesh stitch makes the bag very stretchy when you put items in the bag.
    • If you adjust the number of rounds, Round 25 will change. I recommend placing stitch markers so you know exactly where you want your handles to be.
