Rose Hair Clip

From my previous blog post, I mentioned I’m making something that incorporates rose because Ellie, my friend’s baby, is going to be Belle for Halloween!

I was going to make a necklace first, but I saw that there are already roses by her neck so I didn’t wanna make necklace anymore. Next option was something on her head. My friend already bought headband so I decided to make hair clip in case if Ellie didn’t wanna wear headband on the day of.

She only has a small amount of hair right now so she can make cute pig tail and clip it!! Even if she doesn’t wanna wear it on her head, she can put it on her dress or something.

I used a pattern from my Japanese crochet book called “Takusan Ameru Kagibariami Book” (If you know how to read crochet diagram/chart, you can make many other beautiful goods!)

There are many free rose patterns on shared on online as well! One of the pattern I found was from Attic 24. She has nice step-by-step on how to make it.

There were many kinds of hair clips sold, but I was mainly looking for flat one and there’s no zig zag tips (that type of clip is actually called alligator clip!). Since it was for baby’s head, I thought alligator clip would hurt when you put it on.

So I searched if local craft stores sell non-alligator clips, and I found this Bow-tique Snap Clips from Michaels for $2.69! You can’t tell from this photo, but there’s a hole on the other side and you can attach other materials.

I made a rose and leaves first and put them together. I then attached it on to the clip with same color yarn as leaves so it blends together. I got the pink yarn from my friend (and no label so I don’t know what brand), and green yarn is leftover from Pascal Amigurumi.

Pull a yarn through a hole and tie it tightly so it won’t fall off.

Then I superglued it together so it’s even more secured. (I need to clean up my superglue gun…does anyone know how?!) After that, I wrapped a remaining yarn to a clip. If you ever worked with superglue before, you know how fast it dries up. Plus, it’s gonna almost impossible to get it off on yarn and if you mess it up. So instead of putting glue all over the clip, I glued it middle and tip of the clip (on both sides).

I love how it turned out! It would be cute to make different kinds of flowers and switch it off by season!

I’m so excited for this year’s Halloween and see girls in princess costumes!

Thank you for reading!
