Patriotic Star Bracelet

Have you ever bought bracelet that doesn’t fit to your size?? For me, this happens quite often! Because my wrists are really skinny (and small hands…), usually non-adjustable bracelet fall off!! It happens once in a while for adjustable ones as well.

Couple years ago, I bought leather charm bracelets on Etsy, and I love it!! However, I didn’t read the description carefully enough, so I didn’t realize bracelet itself is long enough to cover my wrist! (I didn’t even need extend chain for it ?) It was very sad to see my bracelet fall off my wrist without unclasping.

Then I decided to make the bracelet smaller, but I kept procrastinating months after months…now I finally fixed it!! I bought “ribbon end” clasps (0.75 inch) from Joann for less than $2 for 3 sets! (It was $2.49 but on sale for $1.74!) I thought it was great deal!! I only needed 1 set, and I didn’t have any other bracelets to fix so I decided to make one!

4th of July is coming up so I thought it was perfect moment to be fashionable!
Because clasp was only 0.75 inches long, I needed thin yarn…thin enough to show details yet easy to make. I had so many embroidery floss in my house so I decided to use those.

When you hear 4th of July, of course the color would be red, white and blue, and design would be stripes and star! Recently I see so many star stitch projects, and I love the way it looks!! I learned this beautiful stitch from The Spruce. Check out Moogly for useful video as well!

I have another design in mind and I’ll be sharing that soon!

Here’s the free bracelet pattern! (You can purchase nicely formatted PDF at my Etsy shop HERE !)

Materials:
  • 1 strand each of red, white, and blue embroidery floss
  • 0.75 inch Ribbon end clamps
  • US B/2.25mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Plier
  • Jump rings to make it adjustable (optional)
Notes:
  • Size – about 0.75in/1.9cm in width
    • If you have longer ribbon end clamps, you can adjust the width of foundation CH by multiple of 2
  • I recommend crocheting together the ends of both colors when you change color for less weaving later.
  • Number in [ ] indicates number of stitches in each row.
Abbreviations:
  • CH – chain stitch
  • HDC – half double crochet
  • SC – single crochet
  • ST – stitch
  • YOH – yarn over hook
Instructions:

CH 10 with 1st color
Row 1 – SC in 2nd CH from hook. SC across. [9]

Row 2 – Turn. CH 3. Insert hook in 2nd CH from hook. (YOH and draw up a loop)*. Repeat * in next 4 STs (you should have 6 loops on your hook now). YOH and draw through all 6 loops. CH 1. This CH 1 is going to be the “eye” of each star stitch. This is your 1st Star stitch.

For following Star Stitches: Insert hook in the “eye”. YOH and draw up a loop (there should be 2 loops on hook now). Insert hook in the side of spike from last Star stitch. YOH and draw up a loop (3 loops on hook now). Insert hook in the same ST as last loop/spike you made in previous Star stitch. YOH and draw up a loop (4 loops now). Insert hook and draw up a loop in next 2 STs (you should have 6 loops on your hook). YOH and draw through all 6 loops. CH 1.
Repeat Star Stitch 2 times. HDC in last CH.

Row 3 – CH 1. Turn. SC in 1st ST. 2 SC in each “eye” across. [9]

Row 4 – Repeat Row 2

Row 5 – Repeat Row 3

Row 6~9 – Repeat Row 2~5
Change to 3rd color.

Below is the little trick to weave in ends.

trick to weave in ends

If you cut the ends too short, don’t worry! You can insert a tapestry needle through the stitches first, then insert the thread into the needle hole. After that, all you need to do is pull out the needle like you would normally weave! Cut unnecessary length of yarn and you are good to go! This trick is very convenient if you don’t want to waste too much yarn and if you have long tapestry needle that’s difficult to work with.

Happy 4th of July!
