Necktie Coaster

Sharing is caring!

Father’s Day is around the corner! It’s tomorrow! Any plan for this weekend? My family is planning to just relax at home and have some family time with my dad! Probably movie night or playing cards.

My dad is most hard working man that I know in my life! I always see my dad working on the computer and talking to people on the phone (about work related), and he seems always busy! Just this Sunday (yes, he works on Sunday too), I want him to relax and just put work related stuff on the side!

To show my appreciation, I made a coaster for him! He LOVES coffee and he drinks even at night too. That’s how much he loves coffee! So the other day, I made ice coffee for my dad, and usually for ice coffee there’s gonna be water drops around the cup right? I know there’re are so many papers on his desk and I didn’t want those to get wet, so I handed him this floral coaster I made couple years ago. Couple days later, I realized he didn’t give me back the coaster so I asked him if he is still using it and he said yes. Apparently, he’s been putting scrap papers or something under the cup when he was drinking coffee this whole time! If I knew about this, I could’ve make a coaster for him long time ago! That’s when I decided to make a coaster, more appropriate one for him!

For a coaster design, I wanted something that reflects him, yet something unique. I decided to make Necktie Coaster because it reminds me of my dad; he always wear suit and a tie when we go to church, as well as when he goes to business meeting and other important events.

This coaster is made in 2 parts: a necktie and a shirt. I had to frog out so many times because I didn’t like how the shirt part was shaping out, but I’m very satisfied with how it turned out! You can make so many variations with this coaster.

Enjoy the free pattern 😉

Materials:
  • 1 skein each of  Lily Sugar ‘N Cream in any 2 colors you like (I chose Indigo for necktie part) and white for shirt part)

  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • Tapestry needle

  • Size – 3.75″ by 4″ (10cm by 9.5cm)
  • To make bigger necktie, it will look better to add 1 more row by increase 1 ST

  • When you get to shirt part, you are going to crochet around the loop (shown on the photo), instead of typical stitch space.
