Hello Summer Bath Mat

Summer summer summer…you’ve been crazy here in Chicago this year! We got lots of 90F degrees weather, which we Chicagoans are not so used to, and lots of rainy days! Because of that, many days I felt like I was in Florida. (Ok, I’ve been to Florida only once and it was in February…that was still warm and little humid so to think that summer is way hotter…I don’t know if I can live in Florida in summer!)

Some people may feel that August reminds them of summer is almost over, but for me I think little different. Yes, I do think it’s almost over, but at the same time, it’s still here! (Plus we get Indian summer so we get hot days in October which I’m excited about) I mentioned in my Hello Spring Bath Mat blog post that I’m making all 4 seasons bath mat, and here it is!

Bright sunshine and waves at the ocean reminds me of summer so much. I live close to the lake/beach, like about 10 minutes away, and I get to enjoy nice lake view all summer long! I take a highway that runs along the beach, and it’s so beautiful driving there everyday when I go for work!

Just like the spring bath mat design, this one is also made using C2C. If you never made C2C project, check out my C2C tutorial for more details!

Since I used 4 colors this time, I was having hard time choosing whether the borders should be 3 colors like previous bath mat, to stick the same format, or 4 colors. I’m glad I chose 4 because it brings that pop of color and balances out the design.


I’m super happy the way it turned out, and I’m excited to use this mat this month! I wish I had more time to crochet so that I would’ve release it much earlier! I promise fall and winter version will be released earlier in the season!

Materials:

• Lily Sugar ‘n Cream Original
  • 2 balls of Hot Blue
  • 1 ball of Sunshine
  • 5 balls of White
  • 1 ball of Overcast
• US 7/4.5mm crochet hook
• Tapestry needle
• Stitch marker (optional)
• Rug gripper pad (recommended)

Abbreviations:

• CH – chain stitch
• DC – double crochet
• SC – single crochet
• SL ST – slip stitch

Notes:

• Size – about 33″ x 21″ (83.82cm x 53.34cm)
• Gauge – 6 x 6 squares = 4″ x 4″
• Work in double crochet C2C (corner-to-corner)

Instructions:

Download the pattern HERE (written pattern is included in the paid version of PDF, which can be found HERE!))
After finished with C2C grid, make borders.

Round 1 – Using Overcast, SL ST anywhere on the edge. SC around evenly. (I did SC 2 in DC and SC 3 in CH space) For each corner, make (SC, CH 2, SC) in 1 space. SL ST to 1st SC. Change to White.

Round 2 – SC around evenly. For CH-2 space on each corner, make (SC, CH 2, SC). SL ST to 1st SC. Change to Sunshine.

Round 3 – SC around evenly. For CH-2 space on each corner, make (SC, CH 2, SC). SL ST to 1st SC. Change to Hot Blue.

Round 4 – SC around evenly. For CH-2 space on each corner, make (SC, CH 2, SC). SL ST to 1st SC.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
