#HatNotHate Crochet Beanie Roundup

There are many awareness out there, and October is Anti-Bullying month. As I went through my childhood, I was blessed enough that I never got bullied or saw anyone bullying/getting bullied (well, up til high school…where I saw several one-on-one fights here and there) Bullies are unacceptable. You cannot bully others no matter how old you are. I get this concept that bullying by young age (kindergarten to elementary) is more obvious for others to realize, but as age gets older, it becomes more hidden; people bully behind people’s back.

I learned that bullying can be both verbally and physically. Now these days technologies are so advanced that bullying is happening in the internet world so frequently (cyber bullying). I was watching one of the Japanese TV show, and one of the topic was about bullying. A student was in this sport team in middle school, and she gets in to an argument/fight with her teammate. They were good friends, but because of this small argument, that teammate told everyone else in the team to ignore her. From there, it gets worse and worse and  later she found out that her classmates were talking/tweeting bad and wrong rumors about her. Long story short, parents and of course school principal got involve and solved the issue, but it’s crazy how people’s friendship, especially at young age, can break so easily with such a minor thing.

What’s sad is that bullying is happening world-wide. I don’t know about America, but because of bullying, Japan has very high rate of suicide for middle school to high school age children. This is very serious issue for long time, and I hear about this issue and news quite often on Japanese news. When I hear about this news, I image myself what would’ve happened to me if I still lived in Japan…


I didn’t know about #HatNotHate until this year. The name STOMP Out Bullying sounds familiar, but I didn’t fully understand what they do until this year. For those of us who experienced bullying growing up, we know the lifelong impact it can have. But it’s time to take action to make sure no more kids grow up with that experience. …Let’s use crafting to end bullying. …This is a beautiful gesture of solidarity, so we hope you’ll join us in supporting their effort.

There are so many beanie designs to choose from. I’ve gathered up FREE beginner-friendly beanie patterns, and they’re all great! The ones I made for #HatNotHate campaign are #1 and #3 and it took me about 3 hours to make both! Please click on the image or project title for information and pattern, and let’s get started!

It says intermediate level, but I believe it’s more like advanced beginner. If you have some experience in crochet, let’s try something little bit challenging!

2. Freshman Crocheted Hat by Lion Brand

Using simple stitches, you can create beautiful slouch-look beanie in just couple hours!

3. Updated Classic Hat by Lion Brand

I used double strands, instead of single strand, of worsted weight yarn to bring the chunky look. It worked out great!

4. 1 hour beanie by Make and Do Crew

Are you planning to make one for wide range of age? I know that can take quite some time for making multiple beanies, but this hat is one of the go-to pattern because you can make one in less than 1~1.5 hour plus design is so beautiful!

5. SIMPLE DOUBLE CROCHET HAT BY OOMBAWKA DESIGN

This beanie is made using double crochet so you can make one in  short time! Simple yet great design!

6. THE HADLEY SLOUCH BY OLIVE + BROOK

For those who love slouchy beanie, this one is a great a go-to design!

7. MOMMY AND ME MESSY BUN HATS BY REPEAT CRAFTER ME

This one is very cute matching design  messy bun hat!

8. DIVINE HAT BY RHEATHYELIA (SARAH ARNOLD)

If you know how to crochet FPDC (front post double crochet) give this one a try! It got some beautiful texture and stitch design!

20. CARON PEBBLED TEXTURE CROCHET HAT by YARNSPIRATIONS

The stitch pattern for this beanie look little hard, but once you get a hang of it, I’m sure it’ll be easy!
