Everyday Lunch Bag

I have a very exciting news today. Not only I am releasing a new pattern, but this fun pattern is being featured on Make & Do Crew as a guest designer! It was such an honor to be part of guest designer series. Jess from M&DC is someone whom I always loved not only her design but by personality, inspired by her designs and enthusiasm, and pretty much everything she does. This guest designer experience was very challenging for me but in a good way. I am very thankful to Jess and Jamie for this opportunity!

Inspiration

I bring my lunch almost everyday to work, and I used to bring them in a plastic bag. As we all know, those plastic bags do not last that long. I almost lost my chopsticks because it dropped through a hole. I pretty much got sick of using the plastic bag. So then I decided to use an extra lunch bag that belongs to my sister. I didn’t really care so much about color of the bag (it was reddish pink) when I first started using it, but after a while, my thought goes “I should get a bag that’s more for me since pink is not my favorite color”.

I could’ve look through Amazon for cute bag instead of making my own. When it comes to design, I could be pretty picky. It can take me quite some time to find the ones I like, and I didn’t want to do that. My criteria for a bag was anything but pink. Another point was a bag that fits my Pyrex bowl comfortably plus extra space in case I need to put more containers. With those in mind, I decided to make my own bag!

Cotton yarn with 24 color offers so many color combination choices

I decided to use Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarn mainly for its variety of color options. I knew I wanted to make this bag sturdy, so I wanted to work with 2 strands together. That means you can work with 2 different colors or go simple with 1 color. What I also love about this yarn is that it’s mercerized cotton. It has smooth texture and has that sheen look to it. It’s also easy to wash!

When there’s a chance in front of you, go for it!

Jess called out for her first ever guest designers back in November 2018 because she was pregnant with her baby boy! I remember I was really nervous when I applied because it was my first time applying for guest designer! So many negative thoughts come in to my mind in the beginning…but I was able to switch that to positive. Some of my thoughts were “If she doesn’t pick me, that’s totally ok. There will be another chance!” “I am creative designer and I want to contribute to M&DC!”

I forgot exactly how many designers applied, but I think Jess mentioned over 100 people! That’s a lot of people there! So to be chosen among them was such an honor. I remember I couldn’t really believe it when I received an acceptance email. That’s how much I was shocked in excitement!

Have you checked out M&DC guest designer series?

Jess started releasing guest designer’s pattern in March, and there has been 12 patterns so far. Every single one of them so far are just A M A Z I N G. It just amazes me every time new one comes out. There are patterns that I wouldn’t wear it or use it personally just because it’s not my style, but the thoughts that go in each designer’s mind to come up with the design is jaw dropping to me. If you haven’t seen guest designer series yet, please go check it out! You can check out my Everyday Lunch Bag on M&DC website as well starting today! I can’t wait to see what color combination you’re going to choose!
