Would you prefer big ball of yarn?
When I buy a yarn and I know I’m going to work on a big project, like a blanket, I normally buy big ball of yarn so that I don’t have to add new ball of yarn as much as small ball of yarn. (What’s the difference between skein and ball? Check out Lion Brand’s blog post here)
I love how Lion Brand Yarn and Yarnspirations offer so many big ball of yarn! Just to name a few, some of the yarns I used in my past projects are Bernat Handicrafter Cotton, Pound of Love and Snuggly Wuggly Big! yarn. All these yarns are wonderful, and I always go back to these yarns for big projects.
Also, did you know that Japan (and I’m sure in other countries too) doesn’t offer any big balls like the ones I just mentioned above?? My aunt got into knitting recently, and that’s what she told me. When I went back to Japan last March, I showed her some of the yarns I brought for WIPs and she was surprised to see how big they were! She also told me that most of the yarns that are sold in store are less than 200grams! (So it’s about 2 balls of We Are Knitters yarns…for those that are not used to grams 😅) My aunt was little jealous that America offers both big and small balls of yarn.
Whenever there’s left over from previous project using big balls of yarn, I try to use same yarn in to the next project so that I’m not going to waste yarn and make more room for storage. (I don’t have work room like many people do so I’m very limited to storage space! It’s all over in my house right now.)
This is perfect example for a project using big one. I didn’t think enough so I did have to weave in each time I changed color, but good thing about it was that I didn’t have to worry about adding new ball! I have mint color yarn a lot more left than white yarn, but no problem! I’m sure I’m going to use it for something else in the future. (I’m already using white yarn for current WIP!) So one question I have for the readers…
Would you prefer using big ball of yarn or small ball of yarn for your project?
