Alchemy Cardigan CAL by Make and Do Crew – week 4
Good bye May, Hello June! Month of May went by really fast, especially because I was working on this Alchemy Cardigan CAL. I worked almost everyday on this cardigan for 1st and 2nd week, and last week I was able to finish it in couple days. This week I worked on seaming, pockets, and ribbings to complete this beautiful cardigan!
To be honest, seaming is my least favorite part when it comes to the finishing point. Maybe because I’m not so fan of sewing…It’s not like I’m seaming together 100 pieces of granny squares (which I would like to make in near future though) so I could’ve finish this cardigan in couple days, but it took whole week to finish! My oh my.
As I was putting all the pieces together, my sleeves were slightly longer than I was expected to turn out to be. I almost frogged them and redo, but I didn’t. I may frog them in the future if I start to not like the length.
Making ribbings were fun though! It’s only 3 rows so it’s not thick at all. I think I have enough left over yarn, so I might add additional row of ribbing.
So after all the hard works I went through in May…I get to enjoy this breezy, mesh cardigan this summer!!
Here in Chicago, we’ve been getting hot blazing days for couple days and then back to chilly days for a while. Because of this unusual weather we’re getting, I have a feeling that I can wear the cardigan many times this month!
I’m actually really happy that I chose Ecru color because it’s so easy to match with any outfit! We took these photos after church, and my sister always dress up nicely. She actually brought casual pair of clothes just in case, but her semi formal outfit goes very well with this cardigan, don’t you think?
Details on this cardigan is so beautifully designed!
Sleeves and front & back panels are 2 different stitches. To me, I thought it was interesting way of design because I believe it can look good or bad. Because both stitches have mesh-look to them, it flows very well together.
Adding cuffs and buttons break up the whole mesh design, and your eyes are drawn to those details. I chose similar wood color tone of a button. If my yarns were dark, like navy blue or dark gray, I think contrasting color of a button will be very attractive detail as well.
And pockets! I can’t forget about this pretty details! If you look closely, there’s ribbing on the pocket slit as well. You make this separately and seam it later. I actually seamed wrong for 1 of the piece so I had to re-seam it. I thought I was seaming it correctly, but when I put it on to check how it looks, I couldn’t my hand in! I made sure to seam the correct edge during the second time I seamed.
I enjoyed making this cardigan, as well as photoshoot! My friends came along too (because we were having lunch together) and one of the friends told me we should go to this spot we took these photos. I’ve been here couple times, and it’s such a nice park! There’s a paddle boat you can go on as well as picnic tables where you can enjoy beautiful nature!
