[How-To] Invisible Join
Have you came across a project where you work in round using multiple colors? How about amigurumi with striped clothes? What about beautiful multi-color mandala or doily?
One of my projects, Heart Crochet Coaster, is circular coaster using 2 colors. When I first made my first attempt, I was using typical joining, which was slip stitch join. It didn’t turned out to be as clean as I wanted to, so I was searching for the best way to join for multiple colors when working in round. After quite some time on searching on internet, I came across to this technique called invisible join. I love the naming. I immediately tried this technique and it was perfect!
You can clearly see the difference between slip stitch join (right) and invisible join (left)! You do need to do little bit more weaving in later, but I think it’s totally worth doing it if you want to have much cleaner look on your finished project!
I would like to share how to do invisible join so you can create beautiful round project!
step 1:

After you finish your last stitch of the round, remove the hook and pull the yarn out.

Thread your tapestry needle. Insert a needle in to the both front and back loop of 2nd stitch of the round and pull through.

Insert a needle in to last stitch of the round back loop only.
step 4:
Pull the yarn. Tighten up. Tight enough to look like typical stitch. Weave in ends. To continue next round, follow step 5.
step 5:

CH 1. Follow the next instruction in the pattern. (SC 1 in this case). Work your way through the pattern. When you get to the last stitch of the round, go back to step 1.
Here is a close up of invisible join (top) and slip stitch join. I need more practice for invisible join, but overall, this technique is very useful when working in multiple colors for round project!
Happy crocheting!
