Pascal Amigurumi
Happy October! That means Halloween is coming up soon! Last year for Halloween, I didn’t dress up but I enjoyed making Jack-O-Lantern with my friend and her family. I got to see her 2 little daughters, Emma and Ellie (my 2 favorite girls ♡) dressed up as a mouse and a lamb. This year, Emma is going to be Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled and Ellie is going to be Bell from Beauty and the Beast! Emma really loves Tangled. Whenever I go over to her house, she always wanna watch that movie (apparently she wanna watch it everyday, according to her mom/my friend) That’s how much she loves it. Ellie, on the other hand, doesn’t really care yet because she’s only 1 year old, so my friend dressed her up as Bell so they’re both princesses (and my friend loves Bell the most).
Girls dressed up as Rapunzel and Bell look so freaking ADORABLE!! When they tried on their costume, they were super excited! Even when I went to costume shopping with my friend and the girls, I could tell the girls were looking forward to this year’s Halloween so much, and I wanted to make it even more special for them!
Right when I saw them dressed up as princesses, I already knew what I wanted to make. For Rapunzel…that cute little chameleon! Yes, Pascal! Rapunzel needs her little buddy! For Bell…a red rose! I haven’t started making one (but awesome idea in mind!) for Bell yet, so I’ll share once it’s done!
I am truly grateful for very helpful resource Pinterest! It took me couple seconds to find what I like! I decided to make an amigurumi using the pattern from The Duchess’ Hand. It is so cute and I bet you can make into small keychain version if you use much thinner yarn!
This pattern is fairly easy to make. It was the assembling part that was challenging for me because most of the parts were very small.
I used Caron Simply Soft in Limelight with Clover‘s Amour crochet hook in US G/4.0mm. Finished size turned out to be about 5in (13cm) long.
For Pascal’s eyes, I used 18mm safety eyes. This was left over from teddy bear amigurumi I made for Emma’s 1st birthday present. (Check out my very first post on Instagram for the teddy bear!) Duchess’ instruction is using 2 different color felt, but I decided to go for safety eyes to make more round, googly eye-look.
For white part, I traced over a quarter coin and made small opening.
Make a small cross, but big enough to insert a safety eye, for an opening. Be careful not to make it too big and not too end of the edge.
Because tip of 18mm safety eye is quite big, I first decided where I want my eye to be (I placed it Round 6 ~ 7) and inserted my 6mm crochet hook to make the opening on the head bigger (or else it’s going to take forever to insert the eyes!!)
Do the same thing on the other side of the head.
Make rest of the parts and assemble them!
Putting together tiny legs, toes and spikes were bit difficult, but I love how it turned out!!
Looking for top and bottom defines how much I need to practice more on making amigurumi so that placement of each part is not cricked!
I think because amigurumi usually requires many tiny pieces (in this case legs and toes), I rarely make one. I love looking at beautiful amigurumi works by other crocheters, and I own 5 books or so but I think I only made few amigurumis out of all those books! I recently bought amigurumi book from Pica Pau so one day I’m gonna make all the characters!
I really hope Emma knows what it is when I give it to her…even if she doesn’t know right away, I hope she likes it that it’s Pascal! (Pascal amigurumi pattern can be found here at The Duchess’ Hand)
